Illustration Friday - Worn

"But Mom," Casey whined, "Lizard has worn that ridiculous chicken costume every day for two weeks ... ever since her 'theatrical debut' in Chicken Little. She's embarrassing me in front of all my friends!! Everyone keeps asking me if the sky is falling. Please mom, you've got to make her take it off."

"Honestly, Casey. What is the harm? You're acting like it's the end of the world because your sister likes wearing her costume, really.... Maybe you should be the one wearing it, after all it's you who's acting like the sky is falling with this hullabaloo over nothing, " Mom said, obviously frustrated.

Thirsty dog

Here's a little quickie I did of a very thirsty dog. Our dog has never done this probably because we usually put the lid down so she hasn't had the opportunity. :) The kids think it's pretty gross, and I agree.... bleuch!! This was quick, and things are slightly out of whack, but it's good practice to draw everyday, so I'm posting it.

And the scan got a little weird. I'm going to have to have it better calibrated. One more thing to add to the "to do" list!

Watercolor Wednesdays - Exploring II

And the second one is exploring ... well... breasts. There is something so funny about stuffing your shirt full of fruit, socks, pencils, etc. to get a glimpse of what you might look like as a grown-up. It's sort of like a pubescent Magic 8 ball.... without the ball... ok maybe it's not really like that at all, but I like Magic 8 balls, so there.

I'll paint both of these later tonight and repost.

Watercolor Wednesdays - Exploring

It's been awhile since I've had a second to sit down and post. We've had a busy couple of weeks, with the end of school activities going on, but the last day of school is on Monday, so hopefully I'll have more time to get some drawing done and posted. (I hope!!)

I've been neglecting Watercolor Wednesday the past few weeks, so I'm working ahead to next week's prompt. I'll try to get IF done this week too.

Anyway. The prompt for WW is exploring, and I came up with two ideas for exploring.

The first... belly buttons. Belly Buttons always seem to fascinate children - from toddlers exploring their bodies, to elementary school kids checking to see if they are an innie or an outie (and sometimes even showing off the bb lint - gross!)

SFC - Bike Ride Rough

This illustration is a rough sketch for Stories for Children's July Issue. The central image is of the mother and son, with the three other illustrations representing what he's done during the day. Hopefully, they'll be happy with it at this stage, and I'll be able to ink/paint it soon. :)

Field Day 2 in color

I did this one in watercolor. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I've got to redo the Field Day 1 illustration... the one with the kids and the tug of war... because I don't like the way the color turned out. I'll try to get to that tomorrow and I'll post.

Experimentation

I have some gouache stashed away and never used it, so I thought today seemed like the perfect day to give it a try... I like the flat color. I'm still working on color palettes so it's not perfect yet, but I'm posting it anyway.

School Days

Here are two illustrations I've been working on all based on school. My favorite subjects to illustrate are children. I just love the crazy faces, and poses they make which are super fun to draw! I inked them, and wanted to get them up. Now, I'm going to sit down and paint. I may or may not post the finished pieces ... it all depends on how the painting goes... fingers crossed! :)
